Public Policy

SAAS partners with the Legal Action Center (LAC), one of the leading national advocates for more effective public health responses to alcohol and drug dependence and abuse and to protect the rights and dignity of people in recovery or still suffering from these illnesses. SAAS and LAC advocates with the Administration, executive agencies, and the Congress to improve our federal laws and policies in order to end discrimination against people in recovery or still suffering from addiction; expand funding for life-saving alcohol and drug treatment, prevention, and research; protect privacy of treatment records and information; and reform sentencing laws.
