BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: PARITY REGS 3/24/10 2:00 EDT
Passage of the the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA) will have an impact on how addiction services are delivered and financed within the public and private systems.
On Friday, January 29th, the Departments of Health and Human Services, Treasury, and Labor released the "interim final" rule and regulations governing implementation. The regulations include a number of strong provisions consistent with Congressional intent to improve access to critically important addiction and mental health treatment for millions of Americans. The rule will become effective April 5th and applies to group health plans and issuers with plan years beginning on or after July 1, 2010.
